March 26, 2012 from the phone line: The Hill is finally open! The cold weather has given the flowers a late start, and the hill is approximately 30% in bloom. The hill will be open daily 10-4, weather permitting. We do ask you to keep your pets at home. Please check our phone line message before you make the drive as it will be updated to report any weather closure.
You may also contact the Amador Chamber of Commerce office 209-223-0350 for information. The Chamber is open from 8AM - 4PM M-F and 10-2 on Sat, Sun - and welcomes phone calls from visitors checking if the gates are open that day. Even if the weather is good where you are, it might be rainy or snowy at 3000 feet elevation. In addition, even if the weather is good, if the ground is wet, the gates are closed. So: "Check Before You Drive." The Chamber 800 phone number: 800-649-4988.
Also, here is the phone number for official McLaughlin Daffodil Hill information during the blooming season: 209-296-7048. This number is updated every day at 10AM once the season opens.
As described on Amador County Chamber of Commerce Daffodil Hill web page, "Nature sets the schedule for public viewing. Daffodil Hill opens when 25 percent of the flowers are in bloom and closes when only 25 percent remain. The best time to visit Daffodil Hill is the spring, usually from the end of March through the first three weeks of April. Daffodil Hill is open only at this time of year, after that it goes back to a working ranch."
